Central Line Workshop

In this workshop, students learn how to insert subclavian, inquinal, and jugular central lines into a dummy model. An attending teaches the correct techniques and supervises the students. Not offered every year. Subject to equipment availability and general student interest.

EKG Workshop

This workshop seeks to reinforce EKG diagnostics learned in VCOM Physiology & Clinical Case Correlations classes. It will be lead by a VCOM Physiology or Clinical professor, and will essentially provide a review of basic EKG interpretation. It is of special importance to be proficient with rapid and accurate interpretation of an EKG and telemetry as an anesthesiologist.

Anesthesia Pharmacology Workshop

This is essentially a lecture provided to VCOM AIG members who would like to learn more about the pharmacology of induction agents, anesthetics, and pain medications used in clinical anesthesia practice. It will be lead by a VCOM Pharmacology professor.

Guest Speakers

Periodically, there will be guest speakers who will be invited to the VCOM campus to talk to our members. These people may include the following: General Anesthesiologists, Specialty Anesthesiologists, Intensivists, Residents / Fellows, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Anesthesiology Assistants, and Researchers. These events will be catered of course!

Annual A.S.A. Convention Trip

Each year, a group of students will attend the American Society of Anesthesiologists annual meeting. This is a great opportunity for VCOM students to meet other medical students from all over the world who share an interest in the profession. It also can provide an opportunity for students to network with current anesthesiology residents (both osteopathic and allopathic), as well as meet program directors. Nearly 15,000 people attend this annual meeting, and VCOM students can attend lectures, demonstrations, workshops, and social events affiliated with the conference. Those interested in attending should express their interest at the first ASIG meeting of the academic year, so travel plans can be arranged.
