ASIG Board Election Guidelines
Each officer position is offered for one full academic year at
V.C.O.M., and is open to all medical students. Elections will
be held electronically over e-mail shortly after the ASIG* introductory
meeting (generally, the first ASIG meeting of each academic year).
Anyone interested in running for office, or nominating someone
else for office will be given the opportunity to indicate their
interest and/or nominees during the ASIG introductory meeting.
Each student who runs for office should write a letter of intent,
which will outline the reason(s) why the student is interested
in running for a particular officer position, what his/her qualifications
are that would be an asset for their success in their desired
officer position in the ASIG, and what sort of programs/initiatives/changes
he/she plans to achieve while in office. This letter will be sent
to the ASIG Vice-President, and redistributed electronically over
e-mail to all ASIG members to read. In turn, each member of the
ASIG shall indicate via e-mail back to the ASIG Vice-President
which candidate they would like to vote for. Once all votes have
been received, the ASIG Vice-President will tally the votes and
announce over e-mail the winners (after approval of the entire
ASIG Board of Officers). In the unusual event that two or more
students who are running for office receive the same number(s)
of votes, it will be up to the previous year’s officers to deliberate
and select a student to fill the vacant position. If a student
candidate should wish to appeal the previous officer’s group decision
in the event of a tied election, a written petition outlining
the reasons for reevaluation should be prepared by the candidate
and submitted to the ASIG advisor(s). It shall be the ASIG advisor(s)
who will ultimately decide the outcome of such petitions.
